"My brother Doug is a Tech Sgt. in the US Air Force and has been serving for 17 years. He is a Spokane native, graduated from Shadle Park and currently lives in Alaska. He is currently deployed to Afghanistan on a 6 month tour of duty and will be required to go back 3 more times before he retires in 2013." More>>

SPOKANE, Wash. -  A local mother by the name of Lynn Randolph is proud of her son and she wants you to know about him. PFC. Darren Easterly is a 21-year-old and is from Priest River, Idaho/ Bend, Oregon. Right now he's serving in Afghanistan with the Sappers 693rd route clearance. SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - Members of various emergency services crews from around the Inland Empire are working closely with the Spokane Veteran Outreach Center to provide healing for wounds that are sometimes hard to see with the naked eye.  Firefighters from the Spokane Valley Fire Department and from Spokane County Fire District 8 will be assisting 15-20 war veterans who suffer from conditions that make it difficult for them to reintegrate into society. Spokane soldier dies in Afghanistan Video included

SPOKANE, Wash. - According the Department of Defense, a Spokane soldier was killed in Afghanistan in a helicopter crash there Monday. A total of seven U.S. Army Soldiers died in the crash, including 40-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Niall Lyons of Spokane. Also killed in the crash was 36-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Michael P. Montgomery of Savannah, Ga. KOMO-TV reports he is a native of Redmond.

Flags lowered to honor Washington soldier

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Governor Chris Gregoire directed today that flags at all Washington state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff Wednesday, July 1, in memory of U.S. Army 1st Lt. Brian N. Bradshaw, 24, of Steilacoom, who died on June 25 in Kheyl, Afghanistan, from injuries sustained from the detonation of an improvised explosive device.   More>>

Wash. National Guard soldier dead in rollover in Iraq

IRAQ. - A Washington National Guard soldier from Port Orchard is dead of injuries suffered in a non-combat-related vehicle rollover. The Defense Department announced 20-year-old Pfc. Samuel Stone died May 30 in Tallil, Iraq. Stone's death came about a month before his unit was set to begin returning home. Stone was assigned to 1st Squadron, 303rd Cavalry Regiment, a unit of the 81st Brigade Combat Team. It's the first death the brigade has suffered since deploying to Iraq. More>>

Colville soldier killed in helicopter crash in Iraq

FORT DRUM, N.Y.- Four Fort Drum aviators were killed January 26, including one airman from Colville, Washington. The crash in northern Iraq involved two OH-58D Kiowa helicopters. According to the Department of Defense, the cause of the crash is unclear right now, but it does not appear to have been caused by enemy action. An investigation is ongoing. More>>

Carlo was not yet an American citizen, and studying to get his citizenship.
