Funeral services planned for recent WSU graduate killed in crash

EVERETT, Wash. - A recent Washington State University graduate who was killed in a rollover crash in Eastern Washington is being laid to rest in Everett. 22-year-old Tatyana Guseva, of Mukilteo who went by Tanya died in the crash along the Snake River southwest of Pullman in Garfield County on May 21.

The Seattle Times reported that friends of the 22-year-old women said funeral services were planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Evergreen Funeral Home & Cemetery in Everett. Guseva, who grew up in Western Washington had recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in communications and had been planning to move to Europe to teach English, according to a acquaintance.

Guseva, who's parents emigrated from Russia more than 20 years ago was one of three people in the car when the driver lost control rolling the vehicle and throwing all three people from inside. The Washington State Patrol reported that none of the occupants were wearing safety restraints at the time of the crash.

The driver, James P. Monsey, 23, of Liberty Lake, and a second passenger, Allison L. Beach, 22, of Woodinville were also injured in the crash. They were transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston following the crash. At last check Monsey was in critical condition while Beach was stable in fair condition.

The Spokesman-Review reported that Monsey and Beach are listed as students in a directory at Washington State University based on a statement from a WSU spokesperson. The same acquaintance who confirmed Guseva's education background at WSU, David Hillestad, the owner of David & Associates Real Estate in Everett where Guseva had worked told The Spokesman-Review that Monsey and Beach were friends with Tanya at Washington State University.

The WSP says that based on the possible involvement of intoxicants in the crash the investigation was being conducted to determine whether vehicular homicide charges were warranted for the driver.

WSP Sgt. Terry Liebrecht told The Spokesman-Review that the driver's blood was being tested for intoxicants, but he declined to say if there was any other evidence to suggest impaired driving.

A memorial fund has been established to help defray the costs of the funeral according to The Seattle Times. Donations may be made to the Tatyana Guseva Memorial Fund, Wells Fargo Account 6504382000 at any Wells Fargo Bank.
