SPOKANE, Wash. - A 19-year-old Spokane Valley woman injured in a hit and run collision Friday morning died overnight Saturday at a downtown hospital.
A 22-year-old male who was also hit remains in the hospital in satisfactory condition. He suffered broken legs and other injuries in the 3 a.m. crash in the 14200 block of East Rockwell.
The two were in the roadway when they were struck by a 1979 Chrysler Cordoba driven by Otis Orchards resident Alex C. Walker, 19.
Walker fled the scene, leaving the victims lying in the roadway. A neighbor heard the collision and called 911.
Walker turned himself into Spokane Valley Police about 45 minutes later, but his car wasn't found until a relative called to report the vehicle hidden in his yard.
Walker has been arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail on two counts each of Vehicular Assault and Hit and Run/Injury Accident.
The charges relating to the deceased woman likely will be amended to Vehicular Homicide. He remains in custody at the Spokane County Jail.
