Idaho man faces charge in fatal crash near Banks

Associated Press - September 11, 2009 8:14 PM ET

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - A 75-year-old man has been charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in connection with a fatal accident that occurred last month in western Idaho.

The Idaho Statesman reports that Howard D. Odermott, of Ola, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in District Court in Boise.

The accident occurred about 5:40 a.m. Aug. 10 on Idaho 55 north of Banks.

Authorities say Odermott was driving north in a pickup that was pulling a trailer when his vehicle crossed the centerline on a curve and collided with the car driven by Jeff Dooms, of Cascade. Dooms died at the scene, while Odermott was not hurt.

A police report indicates that inattention and excessive speed on the part of Odermott may have been contributing factors in the crash.
