Fish salvage starts at Idaho's Sixmile, Gunnel

Associated Press - September 12, 2009 8:14 AM ET

JEROME, Idaho (AP) - Attention, anglers: Firearms, explosives, chemicals and electric current are still forbidden fishing techniques at Sixmile Creek and Gunnel Reservoir in southern Idaho.

But all other restrictions for licensed fishermen have been lifted at these waterways in Cassia County.

Both are scheduled for restoration work come September's end, to help reintroduce pure Yellowstone cutthroat trout.

That means the existing hybrid fish populations here will be wiped out completely - not one trout will survive, the Department of Fish and Game pledges.

As a result, Doug Megargle, Regional Fisheries Manager, says, "We would rather have people harvest these fish than let them go to waste."

Daily bag, possession, and size limits will be removed here until Sept. 27.

But please, leave your dynamite and electric shockers at home.
