AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. - A Spokane area family is looking for a new home after fire destroyed their garage and killed 7 dogs in their Dachshund rescue Monday morning. Margo Mossburg founded Dachshund Rescue Northwest in 1991.  She says 16 dogs were saved from the garage and living space.  Mossburg suffered smoke inhalation while rescuing some of the animals, and she prolonged going to the hospital so she could find homes for the dogs. AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. - At least seven dogs were killed after a fire broke out in a garage at a home used as a rescue shelter for Dachshunds. The fire started around 6 a.m. Monday in the 9200 block of Brooks Road. The home houses the a Dachshund Rescue operation and the Dachshund Club of Spokane. Officials say at least seven dogs in the garage died as a result of the fire. The fire did spread to the house, but none of the 18 dogs in the home were injured.>>

SPOKANE, Wash. - Four of the Dachshunds rescued from an early morning garage fire Monday will be ready for adoption from the Humane Society next week.

A total of six dogs were taken to the Humane Society following a garage fire at Margo Mossburg's home, which also houses Dachshund Rescue Northwest. Seven dogs were lost in the fire which did spread to Mossburg's home, though Mossburg was able to save 16 others, suffering smoke inhalation in the process.

The other 10 dogs rescued from her home already have foster homes.

Mossburg and her family will be staying in a hotel for the next few days and then will be staying with friends until her home can be rebuilt as it is said to be a total loss.

The outpouring of offers for foster homes and support since the fire has been overwhelming, but Mossburg wants to get her rescue up and running again quickly.

For nearly 20 years, Dachshund Rescue Northwest has adopted out more than 400 dogs.
