Shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday, 21-year-old Brittany Simpson was driving a Jeep Cherokee eastbound on Road 4 NE with her 4-year-old daughter and another passenger identified as 23-year-old Jonathan Zyph.
Simpson came up to a stop sign where Road 4 intersects with Road L NE and did not stop. As she ran the stop sign, a northbound Suburban, driven by a 17-year-old, struck Simpson's Jeep broadside. The Suburban ended up on its top and the Jeep also rolled, coming to rest on its driver's side.
Grant County deputies say the 17-year-old was not at fault and the collision was the result of Simpson's failure to stop.
All four people involved in the accident were taken to Samaritan Hospital before Zyph and 4-year-old Misty Simpson were flown to a Spokane hospital with serious injuries.
On Sunday, Misty succumbed to her injuries.
At last check, Zyph was still being treated for a chest injury.
The accident remains under investigation with pending charges. The results of the alcohol level of Brittany are pending WSP lab tests.
