SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - It won't be finished until early next month but a four-mile trail is already being used by walkers and bikers in Spokane.
A foreman for Wesslen Construction, Emery Little, told The Spokesman-Review he could believe how many people have started using the Fish Lake Trail.
It follows an abandoned rail line and eventually will run 14 miles to Cheney.
The city's lead project engineer, John Miller, says federal stimulus money combined with a state grant earlier this year to start the paving.
At Cheney the route becomes the Columbia Plateau Trail, which extends a crushed rock surface another 19 miles through the Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge.
