The National Weather Service expects the first significant snowfall of the season in the Cascades.

Forecasters say the freezing level will drop to 3,000 feet by Monday night leaving snow on Stevens, White, Washington and Snoqualmie passes with accumulations of 6 to 12 inches and up to 18 inches in places.

In Eastern Washington, snow showers are possible this week.

As the storm pushes eastward Monday night and Tuesday, parts of the Panhandle, the Camas Prairie and Western Montana should expect snow down to 3,000 feet.

Tuesday and Wednesday look dry for the Spokane area with highs in the 40s and lows near freezing.

The next storm should arrive overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning. Not as much moisture is expected with this storm but it will be very cool, especially early on - 28 degrees Thursday morning - which is why snow is possible for the lower elevations including Spokane and Coeur d'Alene.

Winds will gust to 40 miles per hour, which will make it seem even colder.

Friday and Saturday are expected to be cool and blustery with highs in the 40s and a chance of showers.
