PULLMAN, Wash. - After a defeat in San Antonio against the famed Notre Dame Fighting Irish the Cougars are back in Pullman to get ready for the rest of the conference season. Up next: an Arizona team on the roll.
The Wildcats come into Saturday's game having won three of its last four games. Arizona, ranked No. 21 in the latest AP poll, finds itself in second place in the Pac-10 after a series of disappointing seasons the last few years.
Washington State, which hasn't won a conference game yet this year, heads to Tucson with a single win under their belts and four games to go before the season ends.
"These players have great attitude," said coach Paul Wulff. "We're getting better. They're working hard - we're all working hard - and we're gonna work ourselves right through it. And we're going to come out on top eventually."
"Just keep fighting," added wide receiver Jeff Solomon. "Our coaches are helping us believe in ourselves. I don't think our mood is down at all. I think we're ready to keep grinding and keep fighting and keep moving forward."
Wulff said there weren't any more major injuries for his team in last weekend's loss to Notre Dame. Whether or not that will start to stabilize the Cougars' starting lineup fro week to week is still a question. Through the first eight games of the season Washington State has yet to be two games in which they've used the same starting offense and defense.
Arizona will likely be without two of its top tailbacks, as head coach Mike Stoops said first string Nic Grigsby and third string runner Greg Nwoko are "very questionable" for Saturday's game.
Grigsby, who averages more than 7 yards per carry injured his right shoulder against Oregon State in September and reinjured it against UCLA on Oct. 24.
Nwoko, who has rushed 43 times for 190 yards and three touchdowns, injured his left shoulder in the Wildcats' game against UCLA.PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State’s Klay Thompson scored a career high 37 points, lifting the Cougars to a 89-70 thumping of visiting Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne Thursday night in Pullman. “It felt really good, I’ve never shot that well in a game this year or last year,” said Thompson in a news release after the game. “I’ve got to give a lot of credit to my teammates because they got me the ball and got me the ball when I was open.” More>>
