COLFAX, Wash. - In 911 tapes released this week the passerby that found WSU graduate Kristen Grindley laying in a pool of blood on a rural Washington road can be heard saying, "I thought she was a deer in the road."

The passerby, who has not been identified, called 911 after finding Grindley just after 1:40 a.m. on Wednesday, November 11.

Grindley was reported to have been seen safe by friends just 11 minutes before the passerby discovered her about a mile from the intersection of Highway 27 and Albion rd.

On the tapes, the caller tells 911 dispatch that he is sure Grindley is alive and breathing, but she is not awake and it looked like she had been hit by a car.

Since Grindley was found, the Whitman County Sheriff's office has interviewed her boyfriend who she lives with and has identified him a as a 'person-of-interest' in the investigation. Deputies have also seized and searched her boyfriend's truck.

According to police records, Grindley's boyfriend was investigated and arrested for domestic violence in April of this year after slapping Grindley across the face, though no charges were filed in the case.

Grindley has been in Sacred Heart for about the past week and was moved out of the Intensive Care Unit on Monday.
