Economy delays Twin Falls livestock lab

Associated Press - December 14, 2009 5:54 PM ET

TWIN FALLS, Idaho. (AP) - The University of Idaho is delaying construction of a livestock environmental studies center in Twin Falls because of the economy.

President Duane Nellis says the university plans to sell land to raise funds for the project, but the value of the land has dropped dramatically.

Nellis also tells television station KMVT that the dairy industry is not currently able to contribute $5 million it plans to provide for the project.

The state allocated $10 million last year for the project.

Nellis says the university and the dairy industry are still committed to building the center, but it could take longer than first expected.
