ASOTIN, Wash. - Asotin County granted early release to two jail inmates to reward their good behavior by letting them out in time for Christmas.
Superior Court Judge William Acey, Prosecutor Benjamin Nichols and jail staff members coordinate the annual event. The tradition is named for Barabbas, a prisoner released in a New Testament story.
The Lewiston Tribune reports that Acey commuted the sentences of 35-year-old Kable Gunter and 45-year-old Shannon Tuschoff on Monday.
Gunter, of Richland, had been serving a six-month sentence for a possession of methamphetamine.
Tuschoff, of Clarkston, was in jail for failing to pay court fees stemming from two prior convictions in 2001 and 2002.
