Attitude helps amputee recover at Spokane hospital

Associated Press - March 10, 2010 12:25 PM ET

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - When Tim Michael lost his left leg in an auger at a lentil storage bin in Farmington, he looked at the stump and said "I'm not going to die today."

In the two weeks since the accident at the BNP Lentil Company, Michael has undergone six surgeries at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. And he has at least one more to go.

Michael told The Spokesman-Review he doesn't plan on letting an artificial leg get in life's way.

He says he is surrounded by too many good people to die yet.
