KHQ EXCLUSIVE: Hayden Lake Wind Damages Home; Man Escapes Death

Posted: Updated:

HAYDEN LAKE, Idaho - In one Hayden Lake neighborhood more than a dozen trees came down and several homes were damaged in Wednesday night's wind and rain storm. No one was seriously hurt but one man said he came close to death when a tree came crashing into his home.

Fred LeClair of Hayden Lake said he went to bed early last night and awoke to the sound of his roof caving in.

"I'm still in shock, it's amazing, that's a big tree in the house," said LeClair.

Broken wood punctured his bed just inches away from where he was resting his head for the night. LeClair decided to sleep on his wife's side of the bed because she was away taking care of her sick mother. If he had slept on his side of the bed he probably wouldn't be alive today.

"Thank God I was sleeping on her side of the bed because it would have been killed me," said LeClair.

LeClair was able to follow his dog who led him out of the house.

Feeling very lucky LeClair went to the nearest store and purchased several lottery tickets.
