COLFAX, Wash.- The Whitman County prosecutor has filed hit and run charges against a man accused of hitting his ex-girlfriend with his truck and leaving her injured along a rural road without notifying authorities.
Kristen Grindley was found injured and unconscious last year along Pullman-Albion road on November 11th.
Court documents outline inconsistencies in the way her ex-boyfriend, Richard Pasma, described the events of that night. Authorities say he told investigators one story and friends a different story.
Grindley and Pasma had an argument the night of her injury, according to documents. Pasma told investigators he left the home and went four wheeling in the mud at approximately 1:30 in the morning.
Grindley's friend said Pasma worried aloud several times about that Grindley fell out of his truck and was injured. Authorities say he never told them he was concerned about the possibility or even thought this could happen.
Pasma told investigators he last saw Grindley in the doorway of their home as he drove away.
Prosecutors also filed papers outlining a plan to seek an "exceptional sentence" if Pasma is convicted. The prosecutor claims Grindley's injuries were so severe the defendant should be sentenced to 5 years in prison. Standard sentencing guidelines for hit and run call for 3-9 months of jail time.
Grindley has left the hospital and returned home to Western Washington where she continues to undergo physical therapy and speech therapy.
Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers says she has no recollection of what happened November 11th.
