Crews battling wildfire in Snake River Canyon

Associated Press - July 22, 2010 9:14 PM ET

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) - Fire crews are battling a blaze that has burned more than two square miles in the Snake River Canyon north of Twin Falls.

Bureau of Land Management Spokesman Brock Astle says the so-called Auger Falls Fire has also prompted the evacuation of several homes along the canyon's south rim.

Fire crews were called to the scene late Thursday afternoon.

For now, the blaze is burning only on the south side of the Snake River.

The preliminary investigation shows the fire may have ignited after someone tossed a burning cigarette butt to the ground.
