Judge: Idaho prosecutor's bank records are private

Associated Press - July 23, 2010 2:34 PM ET

CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) - An Idaho judge has rejected a request from a Nampa man who wanted to view the bank records of Canyon County Prosecutor John Bujak.

The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that 4th District Judge Kathryn Stricklen handed down the ruling Thursday, saying that an agreement between Bujak and the city of Nampa and financial documents like checks and ledgers aren't public records.

Stricklen says the documents, which were sought by Bob Henry under Idaho's public records laws, don't relate to Bujak's duties as a county prosecuting attorney. Instead, the judge says, they are Bujak's private records under his individual contract to prosecute misdemeanors and infractions for the city of Nampa.
