Kootenai Electric and Avista: Beware Of Door-To-Door Sales In The Area

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. - Recently Kootenai Electric Cooperative and Avista Utilities have heard about businesses going door-to-door selling energy conservation products and services to area utility consumers.

Both utilities have standard business practices in place to help keep consumers safe from scams or misrepresentations. If someone comes to your door or is on your property and claims to be a Kootenai Electric or Avista Utilities employee or represent either utility always ask for identification. Kootenai Electric and Avista Utilities employees carry identification and drive marked vehicles.

Avista Utilities and Kootenai Electric both offer a number of energy efficiency rebates and incentives, but we work directly with our consumers on those programs. Employees typically do not need access to a home or business unless the consumer has contacted us about a specific problem or program. Also, employees do not phone or e-mail consumers asking for confidential information.

Please check with your utility to verify anyone stating that they represent the utility or any conservation programs (including rebates) prior to signing contracts or customer service agreements.

Kootenai Electric Cooperative – (208) 765-1200

Avista Utilities – (800) 227-9187
