SPOKANE, Wash. - How cold is it? Cold enough for pipes to freeze, windows to frost, and cold enough for the City to open its warming centers for the homeless.
Officially, temperatures dipped to -4 at Spokane International Airport, -8 at Fairchild Air Force Base, and -10 at Deer Park. In North Idaho, it was even colder: -11 in Sandpoint.
Temperatures are expected to be only 2 to 3 degrees warmer overnight Friday. The current cold snap probably won't end until Tuesday, when high temperatures are expected to rise to about 27 degrees, with lows in the high single digits to low teens.
While official records show extremely cold weather, many thermometers outside people's homes and businesses reported even lower temperatures.
A viewer near St. Maries reported a temperature reading of -22 at 6 a.m. Friday. The same temperature was reported by someone living in Bovill, Idaho as well.
The temperature on 5 Mile Prairie in north Spokane was reported to be -5 shortly before 6 a.m., and -3 a couple of miles south in the Shadle Park area.
Cold temperatures were also reported in the Sandpoint area. Officially, the National Weather Service said it was -11, but someone reported seeing -14 on their thermometer on the outskirts of town.| City | Viewer Report |

WELL...... THIS WEEKEND AIN'T GOING TO BE PRETTY! We are going to have winds.... make that strong winds with gusts to 25 miles an hour. We are going to have rain and, for sure, in the mountains we are going to have snow (by the way 49 degrees North opens this weekend). By Sunday morning some of that snow is going to get down low and Spokane could have a couple inches or more on the ground.. Today through Saturday a deep but narrow upper trough moves across our area.... the good news is it's splitting and sending some energy (rain and snow) down into California. Precipitation spills over the Cascades this morning and spreads East this afternoon. Yesterday Spokane hit 44 degrees (normal is 39) today we will get up to a toasty 47..... but tomorrow everybody's temperatures will go down 5 to 10 degrees....... or back to normal. How much snow we get in the lower elevations Sunday depends a lot of the speed of the system. Right now it looks pretty quick. But, for instance, in Northeast Washington today you can get 1 to 2 inches above 4000 feet. Tonight 1 to 2 inches above 3500 feet and Sunday morning snow levels will be down to about 2000 feet.... so even a chance of snow in the Palouse. Wet, WINDY AND come Sunday..... SNOWY. Enjoy your weekend. I'm George Maupin and I'll see you on SWX Weather and the Q6 Morning Show.
