SPOKANE, Wash. - More than 60 percent of registered voters in Spokane County have already cast their ballots as of Tuesday morning, as voters take advantage of the State's mail-in ballot method.
It is not just Spokane County recording such high turnout, however. Other counties are reporting similar numbers (as of Sunday afternoon):
Pacific County, which reported numbers from Saturday, said it had 62 percent turnout so far.
The Secretary of State's Office said Monday they expect nine out of 10 voters to cast their ballot by mail, as opposed to voting in-person. High turnout is partially a result of a record-high number of registered voters in the state. More than 3.6 million people were registered as of Monday morning. That beats the old record set in 2004 by more than 100,000.
When all is said and done, Secretary of State Sam Reed expects turnout in Washington to be around 83 percent. As high as that may seem, it would not be a record percentage-wise.
