SPOKANE, Wash. - 41-year old Spokane City Fire Lieutenant Todd Chism was arrested January 29th for possession of child pornography. Washington State Patrol detectives made the arrest and searched the Chisms' Stevens County home, seizing their computer among other evidence.
Chism went to court and was released by the judge who did not believe there was probable cause to hold him. Since then, prosecutors have said they are waiting for the state to finish their investigation.
Defense attorneys filed a motion to acquire a mirror image of what was on Chism's computer's hard drive so they could do their own investigation. Prosecutors said yes, but stipulated that they couldn't release their findings.
On Wednesday defense attorneys filed another motion, this time to drop the previous stipulation and release their findings. Prosecutors were not available for comment.
They originally expected to have the data from the hard drive by now and make a decision on whether or not to formally charge Chism formally with the crime of child pornography.
Chism was previously placed on administrative leave. Chism has worked for Spokane City for nearly 20 years.
