  • Last Spokane survivor of Pearl Harbor recalls infamous day 75 years later

    SPOKANE, Wash. - At one time there were 125 members of the Lilac City Chapter of Pearl Harbor survivors. Sadly, that number is now down to one. Ray Garland is the sole survivor from the Japanese attack in Hawaii. Now 94 years old, he has vivid memories of that day 75 years ago as a member of the Marines.

    SPOKANE, Wash. - Court documents are offering more details about a disturbing case of child abuse in Spokane. Investigators arrested 33-year-old Erik Sherman in the death of his baby Thursday. One doctor who witnessed the abuse told investigators in court documents it was "one of the worst cases of child abuse he had seen in 23 years of practice."

    FREDERICK, Colo. (AP) - A lawyer for a Colorado man suspected in the deaths of his pregnant wife and two young daughters says the daughters' bodies were submerged in crude oil for four days before they were found.  Defense attorney James Merson made the statement in a court motion Friday. The motion asks a judge to order that DNA samples be taken from the children's throats.

Todd and Cathy Shaw are one of only two married couples in the country where both the husband and wife have received a purple heart. For years they haven't been able to get around their home because it wasn't handicap accessible.>>

Clouse was killed in action in Afghanistan last week. His family traveled to Delaware to identify his body. They arrived home in Sprague Thursday night around midnight.>>

    OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - A soldier found dead in the woods near Olympia was the nephew of two presumed victims of last month's devastating landslide in Washington state. Capt. Cynthia Holuta of the Army's 7th Infantry Division at Joint Base Lewis-McChord says Spc. Christopher Dombroski had visited the site of the landslide near Oso several times to assist with search and recovery efforts.>>

      SPOKANE, Wash. - KHQ's Stephanie Vigil got to see something very few people do, but is so vital to our region. Fairchild Air Force Base gave her an exclusive behind the scenes look of a historic KC-135 tanker on a mission to refuel jets. With only 40 feet between the tanker and fighter jet, Steph said they were close enough to wave at the pilot.

What ties all these folks together is a Purple Heart medal. “December 28 1966, I got shot in the head by a sniper. The bullet hit me right here,” says Randy Howard.
