Shelly Monahan joined the KHQ news team in 2000.

Born and raised in Spokane, Shelly Monahan is the oldest of eight children. Her parents still live out on the farm where she was raised.

Shelly started her career and is still widely known as Sunshine Shelly. At seventeen, while attending Eastern Washington University, she worked at KJRB radio station. From there, she worked in Spokane doing TV weather. Then she moved on to Seattle, Sacramento and Chicago.

Shelly came back to Spokane nine years ago to raise her two daughters and to be closer to her family. Upon moving back home, Shelly met & married the love of her life, with whom she has spent the past nine years raising their two sons and two daughters.

Along with their horses, dogs and African grey parrot, Shelly and her husband keep a very busy schedule with the kids. Shelly loves to cook, which comes in very handy considering her husband and the kids love to eat!
