KHQ, SWX - Meet the KHQ Local News, SWX Local Sports Team - Spokane, North Idaho News & Weather KHQ.com

George Maupin joined the KHQ news and weather team in 1993.

Born in Southern California, George Maupin is a veteran of the Vietnam War. George says that he got into television because he was “bored with my regular job…I decided to try something that would be harder and stretch me and perhaps take me places I would otherwise never go.” George’s first television job was in Palm Springs, California. That led to a job as the main sports anchor at the ABC affiliate in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Between Las Vegas and his current position as a morning weatherman on KHQ, George has been a reporter, a “week-in-review” talk show host, editor of a monthly Quarter-Horse magazine, a news director for an all-news radio station and spent a number of years as a television newscast producer.

George says he loves his job and the people he works with, but is most proud of his son who is going to college in Portland. George is also very proud of having behaved “just well enough to keep my beautiful wife”. George and his wife came to Spokane because they were told it was a great place to raise a kid, and George says, “it’s true.”

Thursday Morning Weather Update: Mostly Sunny Morning, Increasing Afternoon Clouds

Today: A mostly clear and mild start to the day today but we start to see some subtle changes to the forecast by this afternoon. Increasing clouds will be seen across the INW as the jet stream sinks south into the region. That could also bring some showers and t/storms to southern British Columbia this afternoon. Because of some clouds this afternoon, our temps won't be NEARLY as warm as yesterday. Only expecting to top out in the low-mid 80s around Spokane. High: 82°

Tomorrow: Very similar to today...we'll look to again start off with mostly clear skies but clouds will again be on the increase by Friday afternoon. By Friday evening, a cold front moves over the Cascades and looks to bring some gusty winds (20-30mph) and mountain showers Friday night/Saturday morning. This cold front will be the trigger for MUCH cooler temperatures over the Holiday Weekend. High: 81°

Labor Day Weekend: Saturday looks to be a little breezy but should start off the day with some sun, before again seeing some afternoon/evening clouds. Mountain showers will be possible for our higher elevations surrounding the Basin, and as of right now models are showing that's mostly where it'll stay. Partly cloudy skies into Sunday which looks to stay dry, but again a bit of a breeze expected. Mountain showers back in the forecast for Monday. High temperatures will be in the low-mid 70s through the weekend.
