Dave originally joined KHQ Weather Team in 2005. With over 25 years in the weather discipline, Dave had definitely "seen it and done it." A graduate from the Air Force's Advanced Meteorology curriculum and Mississippi State, he holds degrees in "Weather Technology" and "Operational Meteorology."

"Weather assignments have taken me around the planet and allowed me to experience an unbelievable breadth of phenomena and responsibility." The abbreviated list of weather assignments include: Korea, Persian Gulf, Micronesia, North Carolina, California, and many more locations. While at those, he was the lead forecaster for events ranging from Air Force One flights, hurricane evacuations, rescue operations, to satellite space launches and NASA shuttle landings. His final stop was as Fairchild AFB's, Chief Meteorologist, where he retired from military service in 2005. "It was awesome to be back home in Washington." Since 2001, he continues to work a few days per month at the Spokane Airport Weather Office/Air Traffic Control Tower.

Dave's an avid fisherman/fly fisher. On any given day, he could be on one of our treasured lakes/rivers or exploring a fresh gem. "I actually make plans based on my forecasts…and that sure-fire advantage ensures I know when to go, where to go, and I'm prepared for Mother Nature."

Dave is a decorated veteran, but says his most satisfying professional accomplishment was earning the Merewether Award for research and use of Doppler Acoustic Radar technology to improve aviation forecasts. As far as best weather experiences…there are thousands, and they're all about "A spot-on weather forecast."

Ahhh, Banks Lake! Dad and I hooked into some nice Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass there last week. Warming water temperatures are key this time of year for catching those bass as they head for the shallows and begin to make their beds. Click on the picture for the full story...

I spent yesterday Northern Pike fishing on a 15 mile stretch of the Pend Oreille River from south of Usk, through Cusick, and north toward Ruby. There were a few empty trailers at the Cusick boat launch and the boats on the river appeared to be doing the same thing we were…

A typical opening day on this lake (2007 photo) can be quite busy, but a few weeks later, the fishing pressure relaxes quite a bit. This year is much the same....It's was a beautiful spring day on West Medical Lake and I'm trying to hook into one of the 2150 large trout plants within this serene, 230-acre body of water...

A quick trip out to Clear Lake (my 3rd this month) on a very mild Saturday morning was just what the fishing doctor ordered. It's been a week since the grand "Kids Fishing" event and an estimated 9000 lucky/uncaught trout were released...

I just had to try it! Off to Sprague Lake in an effort to catch a big trout…I only wanted "one" 4-6 pounder. Ha! The forecast was for light winds, a critical element for fishing Sprague Lake.
