Email Dave Law: dave.law@khq.com | More: See Dave's Fishing reports

Dave originally joined KHQ Weather Team in 2005. With over 25 years in the weather discipline, Dave had definitely "seen it and done it." A graduate from the Air Force's Advanced Meteorology curriculum and Mississippi State, he holds degrees in "Weather Technology" and "Operational Meteorology."

"Weather assignments have taken me around the planet and allowed me to experience an unbelievable breadth of phenomena and responsibility." The abbreviated list of weather assignments include: Korea, Persian Gulf, Micronesia, North Carolina, California, and many more locations. While at those, he was the lead forecaster for events ranging from Air Force One flights, hurricane evacuations, rescue operations, to satellite space launches and NASA shuttle landings. His final stop was as Fairchild AFB's, Chief Meteorologist, where he retired from military service in 2005. "It was awesome to be back home in Washington." Since 2001, he continues to work a few days per month at the Spokane Airport Weather Office/Air Traffic Control Tower.

Dave's an avid fisherman/fly fisher. On any given day, he could be on one of our treasured lakes/rivers or exploring a fresh gem. "I actually make plans based on my forecasts…and that sure-fire advantage ensures I know when to go, where to go, and I'm prepared for Mother Nature."

Dave is a decorated veteran, but says his most satisfying professional accomplishment was earning the Merewether Award for research and use of Doppler Acoustic Radar technology to improve aviation forecasts. As far as best weather experiences…there are thousands, and they're all about "A spot-on weather forecast."

Wednesday Weather Update: Strong Thunderstorms For the Evening Commute & Into Tonight

Evening/Overnight: Some nasty thunderstorms roll in from the southwest and pass through Central & Eastern WA from early evening until the middle of the night. Some storms may be quite strong with powerful downburst winds to 60mph, periodic torrential rainfall & dangerous lightning. Be prepared for potential wind damage & localized flooding. (RED)

Flash Flood Watch: is in place over the Methow, Okanogan and Wenatchee Valleys and east slopes of the Cascades, basically the areas where fires have been burning, until 11:00pm tonight. Heavy rain has already caused debris/rock slides this afternoon on the Carlton Fire burn scars & some flash flooding was also possible.

Red Flag Warning: is in place over the lower Columbia Basin until 11:00pm tonight for the threat of lightning causing new fires that could grow rapidly.

Thursday: Plan for a gusty day as winds blow 20-30mph…Lingering showers will move out first thing in the morning & most storms should be well to the north of the metro area…By mid morning, it's partly cloudy until the afternoon convective clouds eventually producing a few showers…Low/High 52°/71° (YELLOW)
