    ARDEN, Wash. - Thousands of firefighters have been working hard on the fire lines all around the Inland Northwest.  They're sacrificing sleep and comfort to protect the lives and homes of many people they've never even met. As if that isn't enough of a challenge, one fire department near Colville woke up to an unpleasant surprise Monday morning.>>

    UPDATE: September 19, 2015 1:00 p.m.: As of Saturday afternoon the Carpenter Road Fire has been declared 100 percent contained at 63,972 acres. Officials report thousands of hours of hard work have been invested to bring the Carpenter Road Fire to the point that it can be turned back to the local agencies for management through the end of the fire season.>>

(AP) - An Idaho man who once won a battle against the federal government in the U.S. Supreme Court is now going to federal prison for sex trafficking in North Dakota. The Bismarck Tribune reports that 48-year-old Michael Sackett, of Priest Lake, Idaho, pleaded guilty Monday to a sex trafficking charge and was sentenced to a year and a day in prison.>>

An Air Quality Alert has been issued by the weather service due to elevated concentrations of wildfire smoke from fires burning across the region.>>
