WASHINGTON (AP) - Astronomers may have caught a relatively nearby star munching on a planet or mini-planets. A NASA space telescope noticed that the star suddenly started looking a bit strange last year. The Chandra X-Ray Observatory spotted a 30-fold increase in iron on the edge of the star, which is 10 million years old, along with pronounced dimming. MIT scientist Hans Moritz Guenther says he's never seen anything quite like this before.

WASHINGTON (AP) - In an instantly controversial new comment on Russia, President Donald Trump on Wednesday appeared to deny the longtime U.S. foe was still targeting American elections, a claim sharply at odds with recent public warnings from his top intelligence chief. The White House quickly said that wasn’t what Trump was saying.

Aim for your neighborhood’s norm, appraiser advises. You’ve lived with those ugly kitchen countertops for a decade. Should you replace them now that you’re ready to sell your house? That’s not a simple yes or no question, says Scott Thompson, a certified real estate appraiser whose work has taken him inside hundreds of homes in the Spokane area.

    Money to the members (sponsored)

You’ve probably heard of co-ops: food co-ops, childcare co-ops, housing co-ops, energy co-ops. The stuff they’re sharing varies ? groceries, babysitting, housing, kilowatt-hours ? but the concept is the same: In a cooperative, people join together to form an organization, sharing resources for the benefit of all members. Books, sure. But would you expect video equipment, upholstery kits, or museum passes at the library ? all available for checkout? Many libraries are offering more nontraditional items and programs than ever. That means equipment, tools, classes, and training that you might have paid for in the past ? or skipped altogether ? are available free of charge.
