    VENTURA, Calif. - A firefighter from Washington suffered severe chest trauma after being hit by a car while battling the Woolsey Fire Thursday morning.  The California Highway Patrol says the firefighter, a man in his 40s, was deployed to California from South Kitsap Fire and Rescue to assist with the effort in battling the Woolsey Fire. He was hit near Deer Creek on Pacific Coast Highway.

    ALBANY, N.Y. - The leader of a New York-based self-improvement group who is accused of branding women and forcing them into unwanted sex has again filed a request to be released on bond. The Times Union of Albany reports NXIVM founder Keith Raniere is seeking to be released to home confinement in suburban Clifton Park with electronic monitoring.

  • Pancake stop snags inmate who fled jail with help from mom

    NEWNAN, Ga. - An inmate fled a Georgia jail with the help of his mom and then went out for pancakes.    News outlets report 27-year-old Joshua Gullatt and 54-year-old Kathy Lynn Pence were arrested Tuesday at an IHOP restaurant where they met with his children.    Gullatt had slipped out a side door of the Heard County jail hours earlier. Investigators then listened to a phone call Gullatt made to Pence about the escape.
