    John Lennon's killer is working to gain his freedom for the tenth time.  Mark David Chapman makes his tenth trip to a New York State parole board next week.  Chapman has been incarcerated since 1980 after gunning down Lennon outside the singer's Manhattan apartment building.  Two years ago the parole board kept Chapman behind bars citing the premeditated and "celebrity-seeking" nature of the crime.

    COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - A Phoenix, Arizona man drowned in Coeur d'Alene Lake Wednesday night. Deputies responded to Sweede Bay just before 8:00 pm for a report of a missing person. The first deputy to arrive on scene found a man in about 15 feet of water. A civilian jumped in and pulled man to the surface where life-saving measures began.

    DETROIT - Aretha Franklin, the long-reigning "Queen of Soul" who sang with matchless style on such classics as "Think" and her signature song, "Respect," died Thursday at age 76, said her representative, Gwendolyn Quinn.  The cause was advanced pancreatic cancer.
