PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A 28-year-old Washington state woman who had acid thrown in her face says she will not let the attack wreck her life. Bethany Storro, of Vancouver, Wash., said Thursday that the attack by an unknown woman caused the skin on her face to bubble and sizzle, and portions of her blouse to disintegrate. Doctors performed surgery on her face Wednesday night removing dead skin from the areas that were most deeply injured. More>>

CONSUMER ALERT: Kia Recalling Thousands Of Vehicles Video included

WASHINGTON (AP) - Kia Motors is recalling about 35,000 Soul and Sorento vehicles to fix wiring in the interior lighting panels that could lead to fires. The recall affects about 24,000 Kia Soul compact wagons from the 2010 model year and more than 11,000 Kia Sorento sedans from the 2011 model year. SPOKANE, Wash. - Emergency crews say the roll-bar on a Jeep likely saved the lives of a mother and daughter early Thursday morning. The two were driving in the jeep heading south on Thor, going up the Thor-Freya hill. A semi was driving eastbound getting off the freeway, and the Jeep hit the front end of the semi. That collision sent the Jeep, and the mother and daughter inside it, rolling. There was no top on the Jeep, but the Jeep was equipped with a roll-bar. More>>

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Public Schools Board of Directors held a special meeting to review a draft recommendation on the new location of Jefferson Elementary and offer their input. The Board was presented with two options. The first would be to keep the school where it is and renovate the building.  This option would cost about $4 Million dollars more and would cause the students to be temporarily transported to another location during construction. COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) - The 49-year-old alleged informant in a northern Idaho murder-for-hire drama has signed a plea deal in the weapons and explosives case pending against him. The Coeur d'Alene Press reports Larry Fairfax and federal prosecutors agreed he would plead guilty to one count of possession of an unregistered firearm and one count of making a firearm in violation of the National Firearms Act. BC Mining Company To Drill Near Mount St. Helens

(AP) - A Vancouver, British Columbia, company plans to drill this month near Mount St. Helens to determine if there are enough valuable minerals to mine a site 12 miles from the volcano. Ascot Resources Chief Financial Officer Robert Evans told The Daily News of Longview the drilling aims to confirm tests in the 1970s that showed high levels of copper, silver and gold. JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (AP) - Joint Base Lewis-McChord is holding a memorial service Wednesday for a Georgia soldier who was fatally injured in Afghanistan. The Army says 22-year-old Pfc. Jacob A. Dennis of Powder Springs died July 3 at a medical center in Germany of injuries suffered June 30 in a weapons accident at a forward operating base. More>>

Fire Caves in Roof, Destroys Tung Loon Garden Restaurant

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Fire Department responded to a fire at the Tung Loon Restaurant just before 10:00 Tuesday night. When firefighters arrived on scene, they saw flames shooting out of the restaurant's roof, which eventually collapsed. Crews were able to knock the fire down and are still on scene putting out hot spots. There have been no reported injuries to either civilians or firefighters and a cause is still under investigation. More>>

BOISE, Idaho (AP)- Idaho Fish and Game officials say the third person aboard a helicopter that crashed in downtown Kamiah Tuesday morning has also died. Two of the victims were Idaho Fish and Game biologists: 47-year-old Larry Barrett and 34-year-old Danielle Schiff. SPOKANE, Wash. - The identities of the three men killed in a car crash on 44th and Eastern have been released. Anthony K. Archuleta, 21, Spencer A. Fry, 25, and Joseph M. Adams, 21, all from Spokane died of massive blunt force trauma, according to authorities. Toxicology results will not be know for at least a month. SPOKANE, Wash. - One person and three dogs died in a house fire early Sunday morning. Firefighters say that at around 1:16 AM they responded to a house fire at 1003 East Ermina. When they arrived they discovered a single story house with flames showing from all sides. Firefighters entered the home to search for a reported missing person. The flames moved fast but fire crews were able to contain the fire to the structure and extinguish it in about 15 minutes. More>>

Fatal Motorcycle Accident In Athol

ATHOL, Idaho - One man is dead after crashing his motorcycle on Highway 95 in Athol. According to Idaho State Police, 36-year-old Justin Mason was traveling northbound on Highway 95 when for an unknown reason he crossed both southbound lanes and went off the west side of the road. The motorcycle rolled, ejecting Justin, who was not wearing a helmet. He was pronounced dead at the scene. More>>

2 Police Officers Fatally Shot In Alaska Village

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - An official says two police officers have been fatally shot in a tiny Native village in southeast Alaska and authorities are in a standoff with the suspect. Bob Prunella, acting city administrator for the village of Hoonah, says officers Tony Wallace and Matt Tokuoka died after the shooting late Saturday. He says he doesn't know what led to the shooting. CHATTAROY, Wash. - One man is dead after a head-on collision on Highway 2 near Bear Lake Park. According to Washington State Patrol, 29-year-old Jason McDowell was traveling northbound on Highway 2 in his 1987 Subaru and attempted a U-turn into the southbound lane. An SUV, driven by 68-year-old Derris Casselman, was traveling southbound hit McDowell who was later pronounced dead at the scene. More>>

KABUL, Afghanistan - Seven U.S. troops have died in weekend attacks in Afghanistan's embattled southern and eastern regions, while officials found the bodies Sunday of five kidnapped campaign aides working for a female candidate in the western province of Hera. Two servicemen died in bombings Sunday in southern Afghanistan, while two others were killed in a bomb attack in the south on Saturday and three in fighting in the east the same day, NATO said.

GRANT COUNTY, Wash. - 2 people are dead after a single car accident Friday night about 14 miles east of Soap Lake. According to Washington State Patrol, the vehicle was traveling westbound on Highway 28 when it left the roadway and rolled into a ditch. 18 year-old Christopher Johnson died at the scene. 17 year-old Kameron Kuch was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he later died. Spirit Lake Medal of Honor Recipient Passes Away at 64

SPIRIT LAKE, Idaho - Staff Sergeant David C. Dolby, who earned the Medal of Honor for his service in Vietnam passed away Friday morning in Spirit Lake, Idaho at age 64. Sergeant Dolby was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division, Company B, 1st battalion (Airborne) 8th Cavalry. President Lyndon B. Johnson presented Staff Sergeant David Dolby with the Medal of Honor, the highest award given to those who acted with uncommon, selfless courage, on Sept. 28, 1967. More>>
