SPOKANE, Wash. - A 34-year-old Spokane man faces additional criminal charges after he got into a brawl while trying to escape from Spokane County Municipal Court Wednesday morning.
Micah Hasselstrom was before Judge Tracy Staab regarding a violation of a No Contact Order. Hasselstrom began arguing with the judge and told her he wouldn't be appearing in court again.
With that, Judge Staab ordered him back into custody with a raised bail. She ordered him to surrender to a corrections deputy, instead Hasselstrom attempted to flee.
As he tried to run, his own attorney grabbed his leg and tried to hold him in place. The corrections deputy tried to cuff the Hasselstrom and the fight was on.
Two more attorneys joined in and the entire group ended falling onto a bench of uninvolved people in court for other matters. A 68-year-old woman was knocked to the floor and partially buried beneath the struggling suspect, officer and attorneys.
Hasselstrom was successfully subdued and order restored. He was taken to the Spokane County Jail and booked for Third-Degree Assault, a felony, and misdemeanor counts of Fourth-Degree Assault, Attempted Third-Degree Escape and Violation of the No Contact Order.
No one was seriously injured in the incident.
