Sunnyside girl almost crushed by car shares her story

SUNNYSIDE, Wash. - The 4-year-old girl nearly crushed by a car speeding in reverse says she saw the car coming and jumped out of the way to avoid being struck.

Yasmin Frausto was walking with her family near the Valley View Market in Sunnyside on Sunday when a woman, who has since been cited for reckless driving, nearly hit the little girl.

Isabel Hernandez, 34, who was parked in the market lot is said to have accelerated in reverse at a high rate of speed striking a pickup truck before striking the parking pole that saved Frausto's life.

Hernandez hit the pole launching her Toyota Camry into the air before it came to rest on the next pole.

Detective Jim Ortiz with the Sunnyside Police Department translated for Yasmin's father Acension Frausto. He said the family was split by the vehicle.

"She didn't know if the car hit them and they didn't know if the car hit her cause they were on both sides of the car," said Acension Frausto.

Yasmin said she saw the car backing up so she jumped out of the way. Her father thinks someone was watching over them Sunday night, it's a miracle no one was hurt.

Yasmin is having a hard time with the accident, but said she's excited to go back to school.

Hernandez has been cited for reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.
