Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane County Sheriff's deputies arrested a second suspect in a Monday night home invasion following a brief stand-off in the area of 7th and Sherman Tuesday morning.

Deputies were serving a search warrant in relation to the home invasion when the suspect, now identified as 20-year-old Glen Akers, would not follow deputies' orders to exit a home there.

A SWAT team member lays behind a SWAT vehicle to fire a chemical into the house to draw the suspect out

The Spokane County Sheriff's SWAT team surrounded the home and was engaged in a stand-off before arresting Akers shortly before 11 a.m.

Deputies on scene used CS gas to get Akers to come out of the home.

Inside the home, deputies found an assault rifle, drugs a handgun magazine and ammunition.

The home invasion under investigation happened around 11 p.m. Monday when two men entered a 25-year-old Spokane Valley woman’s apartment in the 12000 block of E. Mansfield.

The suspects, described as two black men, forced the woman into a closet at gunpoint before robbing her of a TV, cell phone and a laptop.

As officers were responding to the scene, police spotted a car leaving the area with people inside matching the description of the suspects.

An officer stopped the car and that's when a black man, thought to be Akers, jumped out of the car with a handgun and fled the area on foot. He was able to get away from police, though a Sheriff's K9 unit was able to locate some of his discarded clothing and a handgun.

The other people in the car were detained and one of them, 18-year-old Darius Toussiant, was arrested and charged in connection with the home invasion.
