Man arrested in Post Falls after high speed chase

Posted: Updated:

POST FALLS, Idaho. - A known criminal was arrested early Wednesday morning after leading police on a high speed chase that spanned several miles before ending in Post Falls.

The pursuit began when John Rovick was pulled over by Spokane Police around 4 a.m. in downtown Spokane for reckless driving and DUI. During that traffic stop, Rovick took off and as officers gave chase, Rovick led them on to eastbound I-90 where he reached speeds of up to 90 miles per hour.

At some point in the chase, possibly near the Barker Exit on I-90, police were able to lay spike strips across the road, which Rovick ran over.

Even with his tires going flat, Rovick continued into Idaho, before police were able to perform a pit maneuver and pull over the vehicle. Rovick was finally stopped in the eastbound lanes of I-90 in Post Falls.

After he was stopped, police found he had two women in his car, who say they were yelling at him to stop and pull over, but he wouldn’t listen.

Rovick was arrested and charged with unlawful imprisonment for holding the woman against their will and attempting to elude police. He may also be charged with DUI.

Police say Rovick is a known criminal with an extensive history with law enforcement. They say the next step is to possibly extradite Rovick back to Spokane County, where the chase started.

For now, he remains in the Kootenai County Jail. There is no word on when, or if, an extradition will take place.
