SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - A U-Haul stolen from an Air Force family moving from North Dakota to Western Washington was recovered in Spokane Valley Monday night.
The family, a couple and their 7-year-old daughter, was heading to Tacoma ahead the father's 12-month deployment to Korea when they stopped in Spokane Valley to spend the night.
They woke up next day to a missing truck and U-Haul trailer which had everything from Christmas presents to $50,000 in jewelry inside.
"Not only did you take away my daughter's stuff, you took away my wife's stuff and some of my stuff and you took away our Christmas," said Dewey Brown, the father, before the U-Haul was recovered.
The U-Haul, but no truck, was found by Spokane Valley Police around 5 p.m. Monday night after a tip was called in, though the mother says it was ransacked and they have not yet determined what was taken.
There were some Christmas presents left in the U-Haul.
The pickup, still being sought by police and the family, is a blue 1995 Dodge with oversize tires and a chrome strip along the lower sides. It has Alaska license plates.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 1-800-222-TIPS.
