SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - Spokane Valley Police have recovered both a stolen U-Haul trailer and stolen pickup truck belonging to a military family headed to Western Washington.

The truck and trailer were stolen early Monday from the Air Force family headed from Minot, AFB in North Dakota to McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma.

Sharon and Dewey Brown and their 7-year-old daughter Cami were staying at a motel in Spokane Valley when the truck and trailer were stolen.

Story continues below...

Dewey Brown, the father, inspects the trailer after it was found Monday night in an apartment complex parking lot in the 2400 block of N. Wilbur

Inside the trailer was everything from Christmas presents to $50,000 in jewelry to military transfer papers.

The U-Haul was recovered Monday night after someone called a tip in to Spokane Valley police. The truck was recovered sometime after when a resident in the area of Sprague and Tschirley Road noticed the truck parked in the apartment complex lot and called police after seeing reports of the theft.

The family spent Monday night inspecting the trailer and taking an inventory, noting what remained and what was stolen. The family did say Monday night that some Christmas gifts in the trailer were left behind by the thieves, though many of the more expensive items were gone

Police have seized truck and will be combing it for evidence Tuesday.

Dewey is scheduled to deploy to Korea for one year when he arrives at McChord Air Force Base.

This is the second time this year a visiting family's U-Haul has been stolen from a Spokane Valley motel parking lot.
