MOSCOW, Idaho - The Latah County Sheriff's Department says a juvenile has been arrested after he struck a Deputy with the vehicle he was driving early Sunday morning.
Sheriff's Officials say Deputy Robert Rand was patrolling in the city of Moscow around 1:00 a.m. Sunday when he noticed a suspicious male and vehicle, a red 1998 Jeep Cherokee, parked behind the Walgreens Drug Store located at D Street and Main Street.
While Deputy Rand was questioning the suspicious male the Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 17-year-old juvenile, began to drive away from the scene. Deputy Rand ordered driver to stop, but the driver kept going. The Jeep reportedly struck Deputy Rand as the driver fled the scene. Fortunately Deputy Rand was not injured.
Backup units in the area began to pursue the Jeep. The pursuit ended at the intersection of Washington and A Street when the Jeep crashed into a power pole.
The driver of the Jeep, a 17-year-old juvenile male from Clarkston, Washington was arrested. He was transported to Gritman medical Center and treated for minor injuries.
The driver has been charged with Felony Battery on Police Officer, Driving Under the Influence and Eluding.
Two adult male passengers that were in the Jeep were cited and released for being in the presence of a Minor Consuming Alcohol.
