POST FALLS, Idaho- The Kootenai County Fire Department responded to a structure fire early Monday morning in Post Falls. The first call came in at 5:15 from a man who lives in that home. He told dispatchers his home, at 204 W. 13th Ave, was fully engulfed in flames.
KHQ Local News Reporter Kaitlyn Bolduc was able to talk to that man who told her he awoke to his smoke alarm going off and he felt the heat of the fire. He spent about five minutes trying to find the fire, and kicked open a bedroom door, where it appears the fire started.
We're told three people live in the home, but only the one man was home at the time of the fire. He and a dog were able to make it safely out. Fire crews arrived on scene to find the home fully engulfed. They were forced to tear down walls and even break through part of the roof to ventilate the home and get to the fire. Fire crews at the scene say the home can't be lived in and KHQ has learned Red Cross will respond to help provide alternate living conditions.
Later Monday morning, fire investigators will be on scene to determine a cause. Right now it does not appear to be suspicious. Stay with KHQ and KHQ.com throughout the morning for updates on this story as they come into the newsroom.
