UPDATE: Power Outages in Our Area

SPOKANE, Wash. - Avista crews are reporting that about 340 customers are without power as of 2:00 pm Saturday afternoon. The main concentration is in Chewelah and near Spokane Valley. Crews have been working all day trying to restore power after a storm moved through the Spokane area early Saturday morning. In just a little over three hours Avista has gone from almost 3000 customers without power, to just over 300.

SPOKANE, Wash. - As of about noon on Saturday Avista is making substantial progress in returning power to their customers. Approximately 1200 people are now without power, nearly half of what was reported at around 11:00 am. Again, crews are working quickly in trying to get power restored.

SPOKANE, Wash. - As of 11:00 Saturday morning, Avista is reporting approximately 2500 customers without power. The majority of these outages is Othello with over 1800 residents experiencing outages. In the Spokane area, there are close to 450 residents without power.

Crews are working to get power restored. If you are experiencing power outages in your area you can report it to Avista at 1-800-227-9187. Avista offers these tips if your power is off and you are waiting for restoration:

Turn off all the appliances you think were on before your power went out.

Unplug your electronic equipment, including computers.

Leave a light or radio on to let you know when you have service again.

Don't wire an emergency generator into your home electrical system. Backfeed into power lines could injure or kill a lineman working to get electricity restored.

Use your generator only to run specific appliances, and locate it outside so poisonous carbon monoxide fumes don't enter your home.

Lower the thermostat on all your electric heat sources to an absolute minimum. Once your power comes back on, wait a half hour before you return your thermostat to a normal setting. If your furnace doesn't kick in, call your heating/ventilation/air conditioning dealer.
