Pregnant congresswoman due next month

SPOKANE, Wash.- Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers is getting ready to begin a major new initiative. Her due date is May 29th to deliver her first child, a son. When she does, the Republican serving Eastern Washington's Fifth District will be just the fifth woman to give birth while serving in Congress, according to research by her aides.

McMorris Rodgers learned she was pregnant while campaigning last summer for a second term. She chose not to reveal the pregnancy until after the election, which she won easily.

The 37-year-old, who is married to Brian Rodgers, says she plans to stick close to her home in Washington, D-C, for the final month of the pregnancy. She has not decided how much time she will take off. She says she won't be in the office for probably three weeks, but will try to be available for votes.

She says she also may take the baby to work. And the baby's name? She says it hasn't been decided yet. She and her husband are debating that in nonpartisan fashion.
