COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - The Kootenai County Sheriff's Department is searching for a level 3 sex offender who fled from deputies in North Idaho Saturday night.
27-year old Logan A. Mattson is wanted by authorities in Washington and has cautions for weapons, assault, guns and mental illness.
Around midnight Saturday Mattson was spotted by surveillance, driving westbound on I-90. Before deputies could stop his vehicle at the Huetter rest area, Mattson fled.
A pursuit continued into the Hauser Lake area where it was terminated because of road conditions. Mattson's vehicle was found abandoned on Church Road and a search of the area was unsuccessful.
Deputies say an hour and a half later they received reports that a male was knocking on the door of a residence on Three Forks road, saying he was cold and being chased by police. A search of that area again failed to turn up the suspect.
Mattson is described as a white male, 5'11", 185 lbs, with brown hair and hazel eyes. Deputies say to use extreme caution if someone fitting this description approaches you.
Authorities believe Mattson is trying to flee Washington State and head to northern Minnesota.
Anyone with information regarding Logan Mattson is asked to contact the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department at 1-208-446-1300, or contact a local law enforcement agency.
