DEER PARK, Wash. - Two fatal vehicle accidents occurred Friday afternoon near Spokane. The Spokane County Sheriff's Office reported a double fatal vehicle accident at N. Short and W. Bridges about 2.5 miles north of Deer Park.
A 39-year-old Valley, Washington man was arrested on two counts of Vehicular Homicide following a crash Friday.
Mark W. Robinson was the driver of a 1994 Dodge Ram pickup that hit a 1988 Volkswagen Fox broadside, killing its two occupants, a 20-year-old man and 18-year-old woman.
The identity of the victims is being withheld pending release by the Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office.
Collision Investigator Craig Chamberlin said Friday night that Robinson had alcohol in his system following the accident, and also may have been impaired by prescription medication he had taken earlier.
"He exhibited signs of impairment during our interviews regarding the crash," Chamberlin said.
The Deer Park crash was the most serious of more than 70 accidents reported throughout Spokane County during Friday's early-morning icy roadways and then mid-day slushy snowfall.
Also the Washington State Patrol responded to a fatal vehicle accident on State Highway 2 at milepost 319. The accident happened at around 3:00pm when a pickup rolled over. It is unclear whether or not the accident was weather related. No word yet on the identity of the victim.
Authorities are urging motorists to slow down as they drive on the newly slick roads.
