Gonzaga to play Akron Thursday in the NCAA Tournament
SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga Bulldogs will face off against Mid-American Conference winner, the Zips out of Akron in the NCAA Tournament.
West Coast Conference champion Gonzaga is also going to Portland, as the fourth seed in the South region. The Bulldogs will play Akron on Thursday. It is the Zags' 11th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Akron Zips are coached by Kieth Dambrot. They come from a University of about 25,000 students. This is the Zips first appearance at the big dance since 1986, when they came in as a 15th seed and lost in the first round against Michigan. The Zips, which is short for zippers, are named after a popular overshoe from the 20's and 30's.
Zippy the kangaroo is one of only Eight women college mascot's and she currently holds the title of Capital One's national mascott of the year.
