Shadle girls place second at state tournament

SPOKANE, Wash. - The girls from Shadle Park put up a fight, but lost in the end to an undefeated Kennedy team in the 3A state title game in Tacoma over the weekend.

Shadle fought hard for the duration of the game, fighting uphill all the way.  They trailed Kennedy by seven points at halftime.  In the second half, despite every attempt to pull closer, Kennedy always found a way to answer.

Kennedy's Yaz Fuller, the tournament MVP, scored 20 in the 50-43 win over the Highlanders for the state title.  Aminah Williams added 12 points and 10 rebounds to help the Lancers win their first state title in 16 years.

Shadle's Bianca Pope finished with 10 points and nine rebounds.  Aleisha Hathaway added eight points and nine rebounds for the Highlanders, who returned to state for the first time since 2000.
