SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - A 22-year-old Spokane Valley man was in critical condition with life-threatening head injuries Monday after a hit and run collision in the 10100 block of East Mission Sunday night.

Authorities say the man was walking with a companion about 10:30 p.m. Sunday when he was struck from behind by a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer. The pair was walking eastbound on the shoulder of the roadway when the collision occurred.

The companion said they were on the opposite side of the fog line from the traffic lane when the Blazer came across the line and struck the man.  The impact knocked the man out of his shoes and tossed him an estimated 20 to 30 feet.

The driver of the Blazer, later identified as 27-year-old Gregory E. Sutton, reportedly sped away from the scene.  The Blazer was located by Spokane Valley Police officers at an apartment complex in the 11000 E. Augusta.

Officers located Sutton and after interviewing him and a female companion, arrested him for felony Hit and Run, Injury Collision.

Sutton, on Department of Corrections' supervision, has a suspended driver's license and had been drinking alcohol.  He said both driving and consuming alcohol were violations of his probation conditions.

The victim was transported to a downtown hospital where he was listed in critical condition Monday morning.  Sutton's Blazer was seized as evidence and investigation into the crash continues.
