Missing girl located at Spokane Valley Mall

Noel A. Kaleikini has been missing since 9:20pm Monday Noel A. Kaleikini has been missing since 9:20pm Monday

SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Police say the 14-year-old girl reported missing after walking out of north Spokane Wal-Mart Monday night has been located.

14 year-old Noel Kaleikini was last seen leaving the Wal-Mart in north Spokane near the Northpointe Shopping Center around 9:00 Monday night.

Tuesday morning police had said that it appeared to be a simple runaway situation, and they didn't feel she was in any danger.  Police said they believed she deliberately planned on leaving the Wal-mart.

Upon further investigation police later said Tuesday afternoon that they no longer believed it to be simple runaway situation and that this behavior is uncharacteristic of the Kaleikini.  For that reason police then listed her as an endangered runaway. A major crimes detective was assigned to the case and police are once again asked for the public's help in locating the girl.

Police reported Kalekini has a diminished mental capacity, her parents told police she functions mentally at the level of an 8 year-old child.

With the assistance of Spokane Valley Mall security staff, Spokane Valley Police have found and detained Kalekini Wednesday night.

On Wednesday, an employee at Journeys in the Spokane Valley Mall called to report the missing teen was inside the store about 5:40 p.m.  The girl's family had posted flyers inside the mall earlier in the week.

Mall security officers were contacted and began watching for the girl while Spokane Valley Police officers responded.  Officer Scott Streltzoff arrived and located the teen inside Victoria's Secret.

The girl had told an employee in one store that she was headed for a nearby restaurant to hook up with a man she met on the bus.  She said she hoped he would allow her to spend the night at his home.

Streltzoff described the girl as cooperative, but resistive to being taken home.  He said she requested to go to juvenile detention rather than to her residence.

Kalekini mother was summoned to the mall by law enforcement to collect the teen.
