COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho. - A Coeur d'Alene soup kitchen serving the homeless, among others, may become homeless itself once its lease expires in the coming weeks.

Cherished Ones Ministries will be forced out of their current building soon due to an increase in rent.

The soup kitchen has been serving the Coeur d'Alene community hot meals every Saturday for exactly eight years, with today marking that anniversary. According to Director Kevin Kram, approximately 100 people benefit from the hot meals every week.

They also provide brown bag lunches, blankets, shelter, transportation and ministry. Last year, the kitchen provided more than 10,000 meals and with the tough economy, they are expecting that number to rise this year.

Kram says they've been homeless before, serving meals from local parks after receiving proper permitting from the city.

They've found a potential building, but have been stymied by certain permitting fees. They are planning to speak with Coeur d'Alene's City Council Tuesday night to address those concerns and see if there are other alternatives to keep the soup kitchen running.
