North Idaho woman sues over dog's death

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho. - A woman whose pit bull was euthanized after being picked up by animal control is suing Kootenai County and the city of Post Falls.

Katherine Mitchell filed the lawsuit in 1st District Court, asking for damages of at least $10,000.

In the lawsuit, Mitchell contends that the county and city were negligent when they euthanized the dog, named Bluu, without first contacting her, even though she'd filed a missing dog report.

Deputies twice tried to contact the woman but were unsuccessful, according to the lawsuit.

She says the officials had Bluu euthanized because they believed the animal had parvo.

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Department would not comment on the pending case. Defense attorney Pete Erbland said it appeared Mitchell contacted Coeur d'Alene's animal control department, not Post Falls.
