Testing has found no swine flu in Washington, yet

OLYMPIA, Wash. - The state Health Department says no swine flu has been found in Washington as of Tuesday morning.

Spokesman Tim Church says the department is starting to get samples from its increased monitoring of hospitals, clinics and doctors. The department expects to rule some of them out, but other samples would have to be sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for confirmation.

Idaho health officials on swine flu watch

The Idaho Division of Public Health has alerted medical providers statewide to monitor respiratory illnesses that might be related to swine flu.

Federal health officials said 40 confirmed cases of swine flu have been found in the U.S., but no one has died. About 1,600 swine flu infections have been reported in Mexico, where the illness is being blamed for nearly 150 deaths.

In Idaho, public health officials say four residents are being tested for swine flu after seeking treatment for flu-like symptoms in Fremont, Madison and Ada counties. No cases have been confirmed.

The U.S. declared a national health emergency Sunday, a declaration that allowed Washington to ship roughly 12 million doses of flu-fighting medications to states in case they eventually need them.
